Watchdog: Internet resources keep on erasing fake info on COVID-19

MOSCOW, Apr 2 (PRIME) – The administrators of Internet resources in Russia comply with the requirements of the Prosecutor General’s Office and the communications service to delete unreliable information about the coronavirus, the communications watchdog said on Thursday in a statement.

“In particular, false information on the number of infected with the coronavirus, on the shortage of medications in hospitals, on the order of the Defense Minister on declaration of a curfew in Moscow, on accumulation of the National Guard forces in Moscow has been and continue being deleted,” the statement read.

Prosecutors asked the communications service in February and March to delete unreliable information on the coronavirus from 52 Internet pages.

“Since YouTube is often used for distribution of faked socially important information, we’re actively negotiating with the video hosting’s administration to speed up deletion of the unreliable information mentioned in requirements of the Prosecutor General’s Office,” the watchdog said.
